The Day the Earth Froze by Gerald Hatch

I’m actually a little surprised that I was able to find this book on Amazon. It’s one of those obscure science fiction books that I love. I picked it up at a used bookstore for a couple of dollars which is actually how much it costs on Amazon too.

It’s an obscure little book which is why I was surprised to find it on Amazon at all. I thought perhaps it would end up being an eBay purchase. It’s so obscure there isn’t even a description on Amazon about the book. Usually I copy and paste that below just to give you a official rundown of the plot.

It takes place during the cold war when the nuclear threat was the topic of conversation. This is also about the time that scientists began to predict the coming ice age. This book combines the two fears into one.

It’s a quick read, one of those very enjoyable laying the hammock kind of reads but that hits upon the topics and philosophies I love in way that doesn’t smack you right in the face.
