Elizabeth Warren finally took a DNA test to put her ancestry to rest once and for all. It was quickly reported that she had a full-blooded Indian ancestor within 6-10 generations. Well, there you have it! She has a new campaign add and an entire web page dedicated to her “Native American Heritage”. This is an example of a lie snowballing. Once you tell the lie, you have to support the lie and the lies keep coming and getting bigger and bigger and more complicated until they implode.
And that’s what happens if you scroll all the way to the bottom of the Boston Globe article you will find this, “Correction: Due to a math error, a story about Elizabeth Warren misstated the ancestry percentage of a potential 6th to 10th generation relative.
The generational range based on the ancestor that the report identified suggests she’s between 1/64th and 1/1,024th Native American.” That’s right, the correction isn’t in the story, but rather at the bottom of the story where it’s not likely anyone will get to. The end of the story is that she isn’t Native American and if she doesn’t shut up about it then she knows she’s lying and we all know she’s lying. Family mythology aside there comes a point where a person just has to let go and realize that families sometimes just have stories.
Elizabeth Warren attempted to send out a bomb-shell announcement in time for the mid-terms but that bomb blew up in her face. The thing I find interesting is reading the media outlets try to defend her and support her still. At this point they can’t save her, they can only taint themselves. I think they are unaware of that. If they were to succeed in defending her, meaning that they succeed in convincing people who you are native American if you have 1/1,024th native American blood they will only succeed in making almost everyone in the country a native American.
If you test the DNA of anyone who has been in America for long you will find that they have a mix of blood from the various groups that have been here. Native American, African, Asian, etc. Even though interracial marriage and sex were frowned upon for a lot of American history sex is sex and people didn’t care. They did it anyway. And sadly in some (we don’t objectively know how many) cases there was rape involved. But even without rape there was a lot of love too. Every American from the South has a story of a native American relative. Sometimes that is true and sometimes it isn’t. The thing is, there’s no telling. But if a DNA test that shows a smattering of DNA from some native group is enough then we’re all in to be sure.
What Warren did was a lie and a scam. The scam was that she used the link to native Americans to help herself not to help out “her people”. A university publication, the “Fordham Law Review” actually introduced her as a person of color. If she is, if we accept that, then we can set aside the left’s focus on identity as something important. You know the saying, “when everyone is special, no one is special.” If Warren is special for her DNA then we’re all special for our DNA and then there are no more minority groups left.
