9/11 Mastermind: A Reason for War?

The only righteous war is a war to protect rights. I’ve come to say that frequently of late. The right to life and liberty are the two especially and continually under assault by some despot, dictator, or crazy. Khalid Sheik Mohammed, usually just called KSM, is one such crazy. Make no mistake, his brand of evil isn’t based on anything other than mental illness. He uses one excuse or another to commit violent evil but at the root it’s just a man who is insane.

But one insane man can bring about a great deal of destruction when he brings to his cause a host of other insane men or men who are weak of mind. Many question the decision to go to war after 9/11. The words of KSM spell it out that the terrorists thought so.

“Then he looked at me and said, ‘How was I supposed to know that cowboy George Bush would announce he wanted us ‘dead or alive’ and then invade Afghanistan to hunt us down?’” Mitchell writes. “KSM explained that if the United States had treated 9/11 like a law enforcement matter, he would have had time to launch a second wave of attacks.” He was not able to do so because al-Qaeda was stunned “by the ferocity and swiftness of George W. Bush’s response.”

Interrogator James E. Mitchell interviews Khalid Sheik Mohammed.
