I see Obama’s presidency not only as an abysmal failure, but as something that actually harmed our country. I’m not shy about saying I would be pleased if enough of his “work” was rolled back to make it seem as if he never existed. Trump is slowly, but surely, moving in that direction.
“Brick by brick, the demolition job has begun: since taking office less than a year ago, Donald Trump has launched an all-out assault on the legacy of Barack Obama.
Climate, free trade, health care, immigration, foreign policy — the 45th US president has set about undoing just about everything done by the 44th.
All new presidents, of course, break with their predecessor once in the Oval Office, especially if they come from a rival political party.
But what is striking is how systematic the hammer blows to Obama’s legacy have been.”
I can see that being true. For those of us who don’t think Obama’s legacy was good for our country because it reduced our freedom and increased our dependence then getting rid of it is a wonderful thing to behold. For those feel Obama was the greatest thing to walk the earth and all his policies were anointed from on high then this must be a sad time. Later in the article we read something very telling, very important to understand.
“How to explain the fixation on destroying Obama’s legacy at all cost? Trump has held high his determination to fulfill his campaign promises, and give form to a simple slogan: “America First.””
The author is basically indicating that Obama’s policies did NOT put America first. I agree with that.
I see the job of any American president as putting America first. This shouldn’t have to be something campaigned on. Trump ran on that slogan out of necessity. The president of the United States of America is OUR president. I think we should stop referring to the president as “the leader of the free world” because I think Obama took it literally.
It is not the president’s job to manage and rule the world. To bomb the world into submission nor to join the world in every policy that other nations want to enact. America first isn’t really a slogan so much as it is just common sense.
