I’m very glad that the left see Trump as a threat. I’m very glad to see Soros come out and say we risk dictatorship. The Founding Fathers knew that every president, every single one of them from Washington to Trump was a threat to democracy and a potential tyrant. It’s about time Soros became frightened enough of a politician to understand just why the presidency is meant to be weak and meant to be checked and balanced by Congress. Why we are separate states rather than one country.
The right has its share of power grabs as well, neither side has been immune to the lure toward totalitarianism. Both are just two sides of the same coin. They know what is best for you and will do whatever they have to to make you live the way they think you should. That’s strong language I realize, but try to factually deny that it’s true. Take a solid look at just the last 20 years and you will see the usurpation of power for the so called benefit of the little guy.
Thomas Jefferson famously said, “I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.”
That’s exactly what has happened. Soros seems to just now be waking up to that fact. Waking up to the consequences the left has earned in allowing the government to become the nursemaid of our nation, to become both father and mother, breadwinner and caregiver. Really, he has some nerve penning a screed about totalitarianism since he has done more in our time to bring it about than perhaps any human alive.
If they all would stick to the plan instead of trying to get more power into the hands of a central government then they would not have to worry about Trump or any future president.
Open societies are in crisis, and various forms of closed societies – from fascist dictatorships to mafia states – are on the rise. Because elected leaders failed to meet voters’ legitimate expectations and aspirations, electorates have become disenchanted with the prevailing versions of democracy and capitalism.
